Browser Setup for Macs Using UTC Online

UTC Online recommends Mac OS X users use the latest version of Firefox when accessing Blackboard. However, the following browser configurations are supported:


 
Blackboard 9.1 Supported Browsers and Versions
Mac OS X 10.6   Firefox 3.5 (compatible)
  Firefox 3.6 (certified)
  Safari 4 (compatible)
  Safari 5 (certified)
Mac OS X 10.5   Firefox 3.5 (compatible)
  Firefox 3.6 (compatible)
  Safari 4 (compatible)
  Safari 5 (compatible)

certified: fully tested and supported
compatible: partially tested but should function properly

Note About Chrome. UTC Online finds most Blackboard functionality is compatible with Google Chrome on Windows. However, Chrome is still not officially supported by Blackboard and several functions may not work correctly.



Browser Setup for Blackboard

  • JavaScript must be enabled (how to)
  • Cookies must be enabled, including third-party cookies (how to)
  • SSL must be enabled (how to)
  • Pop-up windows need to be enabled for some functions in Blackboard, depending on how your instructor has set up various features such as tests (how to)
  • If you wish to use the Chat feature in Blackboard, pop-up windows must be enabled.





Safari Users
If you use Safari with UTC Online/Blackboard, make sure you enable third-party cookies so that SafeAssign may function correctly:
1. Click on the "Safari" menu and select "Preferences."
2. Next, click on the "Security" tab and make sure the "Always" option is selected under "Accept cookies."
