Browser Issue in Attaching Assignments and Uploading Grades
Update (8/5/2009): This issue has been resolved for Windows users using Firefox 3.5 but still affects Google Chrome and Safari 4.x browsers.
Problem Description
For Windows Vista/XP users using Google Chrome and Safari 4.x, there is an issue for students submitting an attached file using the Assignments tool and for instructors uploading grades using the Grade Center. (NOTE: Mac users are not affected by this bug). In both scenarios, the issue experienced is a popup window that appears stating, "Please enter a valid file." Despite having entered a valid file, both students and instructors will be unable to successfully submit either the assignment or the upload grades.
Recommended Workaround
For Windows Vista/XP users, UTC Online recommends students and instructors use Internet Explorer or Firefox to successfully submit an attached file when using the Blackboard Assignments tool and when uploading grades from within the Grade Center.
Alternate Workaround
Alternately, users may modify their installation of Safari 4.x (there is no easy workaround for Chrome) as follows:
- For those users who would like to keep using Safari 4.x, you must change the browser's user agent. To change the user agent in Safari, enable the Develop menu (Preferences > Advanced > Show Develop menu in menu bar), select "User Agent" from the Develop menu, and then choose "Safari 4 - Mac" as the user agent.
